the eye of beholder

Thanks again to Bastian for drawing my attention to two German articles about Paduang women (more) (here’s one in English) discarding their neck rings. Very interesting and telling a lot not only about the situation these women are living in but also about the way many indigenous cultures are treated both by the local governments and the tourists.

More women and modifications: a German article about Ting, a Shanghai-based tattoo artist, as a part of the ‘unknown China’ series of articles, and a ‘quick chat with Kat Von D’.

This German article about UV tattoos mentions how Germans perceive tattoos on women and men. The question is how credible these data are.

From Philippines an article about ‘lawmaker wanting tattoo, body piercing regulated’.

On a lighter note, ‘car ink’ (more).

Haha, the UV tattoo article is priceless. The “Apotheken-Umschau” is a magazine primarily geared at older people. I wonder where they have conducted that “representative poll” – in a retirement home perhaps…
